In 2017, Sunflower completed the historic rehabilitation of Atlas Lofts, transforming the building into 16 of Kansas City’s most distinctive and luxurious apartments. Located at the northern edge of the Crossroads Art District, Atlas embodies our dedication to preserving historic charm while integrating contemporary design.
Originally built in 1902, the building was home to Grand Avenue Storage Co., later becoming the residence of Atlas Storage & Warehouse Co. Berlaur Paper House, a paper bag manufacturer, was its last tenant before the building was vacated in 2015.
Our $8 million renovation was made possible with the support of Historic Tax Credits. The updates focused on restoring some of the building’s most distinctive features, such as exposed brick, hardwood flooring, and heavy timber beams. Additionally, each unit was equipped with exceptional amenities, including two penthouse suites, a fitness center, and a humidity-controlled wine storage room.
The Atlas Lofts perfectly combine modern luxury with historic charm, providing “urban chic” living in a space of great significance. Since their opening, the lofts have maintained a 100% occupancy rate and are priced at the top of the downtown Kansas City market.
