Situated directly across from Union Station in downtown Kansas City, Pershing Lofts offer stunning city views and contemporary amenities. Acquired in 2013, the building’s prime location made it clear that it would be a standout addition to the heart of downtown.
Constructed in 1917, the building originally housed the Sweeney Automobile and Tractor School, founded by entrepreneur E.J. Sweeney. Recognizing the growing demand for vocational training in auto repair, Sweeney made it his mission to create a distinguished institution. To set his school apart from the more utilitarian garages of the time, he envisioned the building as a prestigious and iconic landmark in the heart of downtown.
After hosting various tenants over the years, the building had been vacant for some time and was on the brink of foreclosure when we acquired it. In our historic rehabilitation plan, we divided the building into two distinct sections: five floors of market-rate residential apartments and five floors of commercial space. The apartments feature modern finishes and high ceilings, while the commercial spaces appeal to a diverse range of tenants drawn to the prime downtown location.
